At just 23km this course is short and flat; a deliberate choice that will see further shake ups following the time gaps created by crashes in Stage 1. Already quiet whispers suggest that Contador may have lost the Tour already being held up by a major crash caused by an errant spectator within the last 10km of today's stage. The test will be for the teams to get the balance right, making judgements early on that will have ramifications for the rest of the Tour.
British National Champion Bradley Wiggins will want to make a strong effort here but after today's superb effort it may be his fellow team mate, compatriot, track mate and friend Geraint Thomas who ends the day in yellow.
